Typically combined with acupuncture, we provide several modalities to accelerate healing and recovery. Elite athletes and weekend warriors alike use our methods to recover from injury or illness. When we have exerted ourselves, we must restore what has been depleted. This includes pre- and post-operative treatment to prepare for and recover from medical procedures. Whichever treatment modality your provider chooses, they all stimulate and increase blood flow to jump-start your own healing cascade.

Cupping is an ancient practice with origins dating back to Egyptian texts from around 1550 B.C., and it was also used in ancient Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures. This therapeutic technique has been adopted in modern medicine across various fields.

At Acupuncture Associates of Castle Rock, we use both traditional cupping and fire cupping techniques to help address a wide range of health issues. Both methods involve placing specialized cups on the skin to create suction, which enhances blood flow and relieves muscle tension. Unlike a massage that presses down on the tissue, cupping pulls the skin and underlying tissues upward, offering a different type of relief.

Benefits:

  • Inflammation and Pain Relief: Effective for conditions such as neck, shoulder, and back pain, joint problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis.
  • Muscle and Tissue Health: Helps with cramps, headaches, and muscle tension.

How It Works:
We perform cupping therapy by creating suction with specialized cups. This suction is achieved through a small handheld vacuum device or through heat (in fire cupping), which causes the skin and underlying tissue to lift. The cups are typically left in place for a few minutes to maximize the benefits of increased circulation and pain relief before being gently removed.

Additional Modalities:

Benefits of Cupping:

  • Reduced pain and inflammation
  • Enhanced circulation and relaxation

Side Effects:
Common side effects are usually mild and include temporary bruising or marks where the cups were placed. These typically fade within a few days but may last a week or longer.
